How organised are you with your finances? Do you know how much money goes out each month? Do you have financial goals in place? Or would you prefer not to talk about it?

I thought I was organised with money. Our financial documents, like all my other paperwork, are meticulously organised. We have a budget. I checked our bank balance each morning and had some vague financial goals.

But then I recently took a thought-provoking online course “Change Your Money Story” run by my friend Eileen Adamson over at Your Money Sorted. And well, it turns out that I wasn’t as organised as I thought.

How we saved nearly £4000 per year

Those financial goals I had? I soon realised that they were little more than dreams. Eileen’s course helped me work them through and examine my emotions about money. She helped me to set some realistic, achievable goals. She helped us to see where we could save money, even though I thought we already had it down to the minimum. Following my learning from the course and a couple of hours on my laptop, I was able to shave another £321 off our monthly budget. That;s a whopping £3852 a year!

Four months after finishing the course and we are still benefiting from what I learned. Last week we paid off the last of our credit cards and I am thrilled to say that we are now debt free! Woo-hoo! And the icing on the cake – when I checked my credit score, it was perfect. In less than a year since returning to the UK too. (As every returning expat will tell you, getting back onto the credit score radar after living overseas can be a nightmare).

We need to talk about money

Why am I telling you this? Why am I sharing my financial life with you? I get it – us British don’t like talking about money very much, do we? It makes us uncomfortable. We are taught from an early age that it’s “not polite” to talk about money. And that’s exactly where some of the problems arise from.

My lovely friend Eileen has put her 5-day course together, to help you examine your feelings around money. To talk them through in an anonymous but supportive setting, with other people who have hopes and dreams for their money and future, just like you.

You know that I don’t usually promote products through More Organised, but I honestly feel that the Change Your Money Story course has helped me so much, that I would love you to be able to see for yourself the difference it can make. Even if you think you are already organised with your finances.
