I’m trying something new with this post, by sharing what I am currently up to, whether it’s organising, relaxing or just getting through each month!

For years I have included a “Currently…” card in my scrapbooking pages, to remind myself what I was thinking, reading, watching, creating (you get the picture) at a particular time. For a while now I have wanted to bring over that idea to my blog too, and what better time to start than with the new website.

The idea behind “Currently…” is to choose a series of prompts and respond to them, sharing what you are currently doing. It’s a fun way of giving a little extra background to my usual blog posts, to help us get to know each other better and find new ways of connecting.

I have chosen 10 prompts, some to do with organising and some not, to give a more balanced view of life behind the More Organised scenes. I am intending to write a “Currently…” post at the end of each month, which will also give me some accountability with my plans and projects. I hope you like it… here goes!

I am currently…

…organising my home office, following the installation of a new IKEA desk and shelving. I chose a wooden desk top which I have placed on top of two ALEX drawer units to maximise storage. The BRIMNES bookcases have the perfect depth for my Project Life scrapbooks, and lovely deep drawers to hide my less pretty office supplies. I’ve really enjoyed a good declutter and reorganisation of my own belongings for once.

…planning  Mr Soon-to-be-Six’s Minecraft birthday party. I know absolutely nothing about Minecraft so am relying heavily on Pinterest for inspiration and Etsy for bespoke printables. For the main activity, I have booked the fab team at Rockit Science, to run a fun party workshop. I understand that lava and slime feature heavily in Minecraft, so I am sure our little guests will have great fun making lots of it!

…loving the cooler weather that we have been having in Dubai throughout February. I’ve enjoyed wearing jackets and boots, and even using my rainbow umbrella. The novelty is beginning to wear off a little now though, and I’m struggling to get my laundry dry on these rainy days, so today’s sunshine was welcome.

…celebrating overcoming my fears and driving my car off-road in the desert to Fossil Rock last week. I was terrified for days before our trip, but having guests in town meant that we needed to take both cars out if we were going to fit everyone in. No pressure there then! I needn’t have worried, because as soon as my tyres left the track, I was too busy concentrating on the lay of the sand, my route through the dunes, and checking that there were no other vehicles near me to be frightened. Reaching the top of Fossil Rock felt like such an achievement and I am so proud of myself. It’s true what they say… whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right. Lesson learned and I’m now working out when I can do it again!

…reading (or should I say re-reading for the millionth time) Marie Kondo’s “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. I figured that as an organiser, my blog wouldn’t be a blog without a review of this must-read. Watch out for the review coming soon.

…watching not much at the moment, to be honest. These days, a show has to be pretty amazing for me to spend my valuable free time watching TV. (Think “The Fall”, “Sherlock”, “Stranger Things”) If I do want to watch something, I’ve been catching up on the family history series “Who Do You Think You Are?” and re-watching episodes from my all-time favourite show, “The X Files”. With the Oscars having just taken place, I’ve also had my annual reminder that I really need to get out a bit more and go to watch some movies.

…creating this cute diaper cake for a friend’s baby shower. It was so much fun to decorate, and the whole thing only took an hour to put together. I asked each of the guests to write a little note to tuck into some of the nappies, so that our friend gets a little word of encouragement or love, just when she needs it most!

…cleaning jewellery.  At Christmas I surprised my mum by cleaning her blackened Pandora bracelets and charms as a surprise. She thought they were a lost cause, but I found a new silver-polishing cloth at Links of London which made light work of it all. Having resurrected Mum’s lovely charms, I am now going through my own jewellery piece by piece, cleaning it all up and having a good old declutter at the same time. It’s strangely therapeutic.

…trying to keep my email at “Inbox Zero” for my three accounts (work, personal and More Organised). I achieved it for the first time yesterday, it’s currently at zero still, and I’m going to do my very best to keep it that way! I have been making a conscious effort to respond to emails as soon as I receive them, and take myself off the unnecessary email mailing lists. It’s working so far and it feels oh-so-good.

…finishing the month strong! January was a write-off for me (a poorly little boy to look after, recurrent migraines, another bout of bronchitis and house guests). I decided to start my 2017 over again on 01 February, and it worked! This month I have been catching up with projects, planning the next few months, finding a new personal trainer and getting back to the gym, eating healthily and spending more time with Mr 5. I’m even more excited now about what March will bring.
