I’ve been keeping a secret for the past few weeks, but today I am thrilled to announce my big news… More Organised has been selected as one of this year’s #SmallBiz100!

Each year, the team behind the Small Business Saturday campaign select 100 UK small businesses to support in the run up to what is generally considered the busiest shopping day in the calendar, the first Saturday in December. This year Small Business Saturday takes place on Saturday 1st December.

I am delighted that More Organised has was chosen as one of the 100 from amongst 1000s of entries! The only business in Dumfries & Galloway to have been selected for the accolade this year, and one of five in Scotland. I’ve long been an advocate of buying from local, independent shops and services, and I am delighted that this accolade gives me a platform to shout loud about supporting our small businesses nationwide!

Showcasing small businesses across the UK

In each of the 100 days running up to Small Business Saturday, the team promote one of the #SmallBiz100 on social media and in the local and national press.

But the 100-day campaign is much wider than that, with all small businesses across the UK and their customers invited to take part. Among other events, the Small Business Saturday bus travels up and down the UK, hosting workshops, Q&A sessions and business exhibitions around the country.

This prolonged period of promotional activity aims to encourage spending with small, independent businesses in the run-up to Christmas, and to counter some of the impact days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday have on consumer spending.

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. On Small Business Saturday, customers across the U.K go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts.

The particular focus around Small Business Saturday, which this year falls on 1st December, continues year round. The campaign supports UK small businesses through its Small Business Finder, a searchable directory to help you find small, independent shops and services near you. Some of them (including More Organised!) offer discounts and special offers through the directory, so it’s well worth a look!

Small Business Saturday also offers start-up and general business advice and case studies showcasing other small businesses. Recently the campaign has also partnered with iDEA, The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award to deliver free, expert online training to small businesses across the UK. I have found these resources to be really helpful and I encourage anyone running (or thinking about opening) their own business to take a look.

More Organised’s #SmallBiz100 Day is on 11 September

Mark you diary! The Small Business Saturday campaign will be celebrating and promoting More Organised on 11 September. During the day I will be offering a special #SmallBiz100 promotion and giving organising tips on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter throughout the day. You will also have the opportunity to win your own organising session!

I have been blown away by the support from the campaign so far, and am so very grateful for this opportunity only 10 months into my business. I’m looking forward to sharing 11 September with you too!
